Divorce is the death of a marriage. It will be grieved like a
death. If you
wonder why you feel bad about it - that is one of the reasons.
After last weeks, topic, I was in an interested conversation
with a friend who alerted me to the topic of Grey divorce.
I was divorced.
My story…
- Conditions for Divorce
-
- Under Mosaic Law - previous sexual? indecency
-
- Deuteronomy
24:1-4, "When a man takes a wife and marries her, and it
happens that she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found
some indecency in her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce
and puts it in her hand and sends her out from his house, 2 and she
leaves his house and goes and becomes another man’s wife, 3 and if
the latter husband turns against her and writes her a certificate
of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house,
or if the latter husband dies who took her to be his wife, 4 then
her former husband who sent her away is not allowed to take her
again to be his wife, since she has been defiled; for that is an
abomination before the Lord, and you shall not bring sin on the
land which the Lord your God gives you as an inheritance."
- 1
Cor. 7:13-15, "And a woman who has an unbelieving husband, and
he consents to live with her, let her not send her husband away. 14
For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife, and the
unbelieving wife is sanctified through her believing husband; for
otherwise your children are unclean, but now they are holy. 15 Yet
if the unbelieving one leaves, let him leave; the brother or the
sister is not under bondage in such cases, but God has called us to
peace."
- Abandonment
- Matthew
5:32, "but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife,
except for the cause of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and
whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery."
- Adultery
- Marrying Another
-
- Deuteronomy
24:3-4, "and if the latter husband turns against her and writes
her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her
out of his house, or if the latter husband dies who took her to be
his wife, 4 then her former husband who sent her away is not
allowed to take her again to be his wife, since she has been
defiled; for that is an abomination before the Lord, and you shall
not bring sin on the land which the Lord your God gives you as an
inheritance."
- Matthew
19:9, "And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for
immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”
- Mark
10:11-12, "And He said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and
marries another woman commits adultery against her; 12 and if she
herself divorces her husband and marries another man, she is
committing adultery.”
- Conditions within Divorce
- Malachi
2:16, “For I hate divorce,” says the Lord, the God of Israel,
“and him who covers his garment with wrong,” says the Lord of
hosts. “So take heed to your spirit, that you do not deal
treacherously."
- Divorce and God
- Isaiah
50:1, "Thus says the LORD, “Where is the certificate of divorce
By which I have sent your mother away? Or to whom of My creditors
did I sell you? Behold, you were sold for your iniquities, And for
your transgressions your mother was sent away."
- Jeremiah
3:8, "And I saw that for all the adulteries of faithless
Israel, I had sent her away and given her a writ of divorce, yet
her treacherous sister Judah did not fear; but she went and was a
harlot also."
- God divorced Israel
- Matt.
19:8, "He said to them, 'Because of your hardness of heart,
Moses permitted you to divorce your wives; but from the beginning
it has not been this way.'"
- 1
Cor. 7:10-13, "But to the married I give instructions, not I,
but the Lord, that the wife should not leave her husband 11 (but if
she does leave, let her remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to
her husband), and that the husband should not send his wife away.
12 But to the rest I say, not the Lord, that if any brother has a
wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, let
him not send her away. 13 And a woman who has an unbelieving
husband, and he consents to live with her, let her not send her
husband away."

What Is The Church
What is the church?
The church can be understood in two ways: the visible and the
invisible. The visible church is comprised of all who claim the
name of Jesus as the Christ and who gather together for worship and
participation of the sacraments: the Lord's Supper and
Baptism.
But, the
visible church contains both believers and non-believers. In other
words, there are people in the visible church who are not really
saved.
The members of the invisible church are the actual body of
believers. They are the ones who are truly regenerate and have
trusted, by faith, in the true Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The
true Christian is indwelt by the Lord Jesus (John 14:23)
through the Holy Spirit. Therefore, the Christian church is
figuratively said to be the body of Christ.
- Rom.
12:5, "So we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and
individually members one of another."
- Eph.
4:12, "For the equipping of the saints for the work of service,
to the building up of the body of Christ."
The word "church" comes from the Greek "ekklesia" which means
"gathering" or "assembly." Therefore, the church is the gathering
of the believers who come together to participate in fellowship
with one another as they worship God and hear from His Word, the
Bible. The church as a whole has been equipped with people
possessing different spiritual gifts (Rom. 12:5-8).
The purpose of the gifts is
Eph.
4:12-13, "for the equipping of the saints for the work of
service, to the building up of the body of Christ; 13 until we all
attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son
of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which
belongs to the fullness of Christ."
