Exodus 20:7 speaks about cursing God. (Don't do it) But what about our language to everyone else?
7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
We honor God’s name (v. 7). The command to not take God’s name in vain is more than simply a prohibition of cursing Him. Profanity not only reflects a heart darkened with hate, but it shows an utter disrespect for a holy God. The commandment also means that we are not to take God’s name and talk in a way that dishonors us as His reps.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Proverbs 18:21
Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. Col 4:6
