You are Called to... | Episode 217

Jan 23, 2022

Ephesians 2:10 -  For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

Praying for ourselves

So that we would do what we are called to do.

Focus

God is calling you today to life of quiet obedience and faithful trust in every situation and in every conversation. God is calling you today to use the skills and talents he has blessed you with, right where you are. Before you can begin to understand who you are and what you are called to do, you have to truly understand who God is.

Now, if you have been a believer for some time, you may already have a good picture of our Heavenly Father and that’s great, but bear with me for a moment.

While Jesus came to earth as man, God is not made in our image. We are made in His. If we were created by Him, each unique and by His workmanship, we can’t really know who we are unless we know and understand Him, first.Turn down the distractions.

Ask yourself what distractions you currently love the most: Maybe it's TV, social media, or email. Once you've gotten honest with yourself about your distractions, gently question how you can start to replace them with that thing that feels good. Doing so might be uncomfortable at first, since we love distractions for a reason: They stop from facing things we don’t want to, or having to answer difficult questions. But consciously opting to turn down the volume on our distractions, one notch at a time, will allow more stillness and possibility to enter our lives.

If you simply don’t feel fulfilled, you are not living out your calling. Fulfillment is a feeling that stems from doing meaningful, purposeful things. Your fulfillment may come from a thriving relationship to enjoying hobbies that you are passionate about. Or, your fulfillment may derive from a job that uses your talents and skills. Of course, life has its share of boring tasks and days, but if every area of your life makes you feel unfulfilled, it’s time to ask God to reveal your calling to you.

We change as people as He grows and refines us.

As you serve others and receive input, correction, affirmation, and opportunities, trust that you have a faithful Father who “created [you] in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that [you] should walk in them” (Eph. 2:10). And these “good works” are done in the various callings, through the various seasons, that God entrusts to us.

We’re not called to everything, which means we can joyfully lean on and work with the callings of others. We find our callings with, by, and in serving others. And we fulfill our callings as others fulfill theirs.
