Sorrow looks back
Worry looks around
Faith looks up.
In my 59 years of life I have fought people, ideals, crime, poverty, depression, oppression, racism, sexism, doubt, insecurity, fear, unbelief, mental, physical and spiritual illness and sin of all kinds
I have the wrinkles, moles and scars to prove it.
I have never cried so much this year that I can remember. I have learned about myself and my God. And I want to share some of it with you.
This week my wife returns home from rehab after the removal of a brain tumor almost the size of a grapefruit. The surgery was worse than the tumor. She is like a stroke victim trying to regain herself. She cannot walk talk or eat. Her throat muscles have forgotten how to work. She has a feeding tube in her stomach. She is coming home because she has outstayed the length of time our insurance has. And the so called therapy she was supposed to get was lacking to me. I will add the occupation of caregiver, speech, occupational and physical therapist to my resume starting Monday.
I am going to do this and going to do it well. I know God has built me for this.
Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father
There is no shadow of turning with Thee
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be
Great is Thy faithfulness, great is Thy faithfulness
Morning by morning new mercies I see
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me
I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1
Jesus looked up
John 17:1 he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, "Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you,
Stephen looked up
Acts 7:55-56: But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, 56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.
I go to prepare a place for you,” said our Lord. “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there you may be also. (John 14:3).
If it were not so, I would have told you.
Jesus said that. I believe Him.
I choose to believe.
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.
